Considering the Garmin Nuvi 200

I became a fan of GPS devices after using my mom's GPS one day as we were looking for a new restaurant. I plugged in the address and the GPS prepared our route and I got us to our location just as we expected. It was great! Since then, I have been wanting to purchase a GPS for my own car but there are so many different brands and models to choose from, I have to review the ones that look worthwhile.

I am definitely in search of one that is easy to use and within my budget. I love gadgets so a GPS will be a welcome addition to my collection. However, I do want it more for the fact of not having to worry so much about becoming lost when I am driving around.

The Garmin Nuvi 200 is considered one of the "entry level" GPS systems and its low cost is also great for those who are on a budget. The size is small at 3.5 inches which makes it easy to take anywhere.

Overview of the Garmin Nuvi 200

Technical Details

  • 3.5-Inch Qvga Display
  • Sleek, Pocketable Form Factor
  • Thinner Than Current Nuvi
  • No Flip-Up Antenna
  • Full Us & Canada Coverage

So far I love the fact that it is small and thin. This makes it easy to carry around with you which is nice because I am not always in my car. If I am not driving, one of my friends or family members is so I like the convenience factor.

I've never seen a GPS with a flip up antenna but antennas in general can be annoying. Since this has no antenna that is an added bonus. It is labeled as "easy to use" and has a touch-screen.

It weighs about 5.2 ounces with a lithium-ion battery that can provide up to five hours of battery life depending on use.

Ease of Navigation

The Garmin Nuvi 200 comes preloaded with City Navigator NT street maps for the continental United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. It also includes a database of over 6 million points of interests like hotels, gas stations, ATM's, and restaurants.

You have the option of using 2D or 3D maps and it also has turn-by-turn voice directions which is a must for me.

Other Cool Features

  • JPEG picture viewer
  • world travel clock with time zones
  • currency converter
  • measurement converter,
  • calculator
  • Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature

Conclusion

So far I am really liking the Garmin Nuvi 200. It is feature rich and the price really can't be beat for all that is included. This one will definitely be at the top of my list when I finally decide to make the purchase. What I love most is its size, touch-screen, ease of use, turn-by-turn voice feature, and of course the price.
