From Big Car to Little Car

I used to be a big car owner. My previous vehicle was a 2004 Nissan Frontier crew cab. While it isn't as big as some of the monster SUV's out there, it is still quite larger than a Scion xD. Why did I go from one extreme to another? I had several reasons to include:

  • Better gas mileage
  • Easier to park
  • Less maintenance costs
  • No more borrowing my truck for hauling stuff

Gas Mileage

Let's start off with why most people often trade in their old gas guzzlers for something smaller. Gas prices are soaring and huge cars with big tanks can mean $100 or more to fill up. That is extremely expensive for anyone, especially someone with a family.

The Scion xD gives 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Filling it up is a lot less painful than when I had my truck. I also fill up a lot less often. It's really quite a difference to see how far I can get around on one tank of gas.

Often times, I would avoid having to drive because I'd have to fill up my truck. It's no longer an issue now. Little cars rule!

Styling

Features

I was actually amazed at all of the features included with the 2011 Scion xD. My car is complete with air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, Pioneer stereo, 6-speakers, MP3/USB connection, and stereo controls on the steering wheel. Not only that, I also got what's called the "Scion Boost" which is 2 years (or 25,000 miles) of free maintenance and roadside service. Talk about saving money right off the bat. That's two years of free oil changes, tire rotations, etc.

Great Car for the Money

Overall, I couldn't be happier with my Scion xD. I did a complete review over on my blog: Scion xD review. It is really fun to drive and I enjoy being able to park it anywhere, unlike my truck which was a hassle. If you are shopping around for a nice compact car, give the Scion xD consideration.
